Rajat Khare has recently been under scrutiny from the media for his prior behavior. Rajat Khare was also the co-founder [with his brother Anuj Khare] of Appin Security, a hack-for-hire organization. This dates back to 2011 when Appin Ganag officially targeted Peter Hargitay as an advisor. Yet, within FIFA, he is seen as a spin doctor, an influential power broker behind the scenes. He had been close to Sepp Blatter, the then-omnipotent president. Afterward, he worked as a consultant for the Australian Football Association and its millionaire chairman, Frank Lowy. Hargitay was hired to assist Australia in hosting the 2022 World Cup, thus she collaborated closely with Lowy.
Evidence rapidly led to the infrastructure of Appin Security, an IT company based in India. SRF got copies of the criminal proceedings in Zurich. The hackers appear to have worked carelessly. The server utilized for the attack contains numerous pieces of evidence showing Appin’s involvement.

Attacks bearing Appin’s imprint began to get noticed around the world. They appeared to have no pattern as if the Indian business attacked at random. According to SRF’s study and international media reports, the method is based on a relatively new business model in which a company attack targets for a charge and then sends the information to a client. “Hacking for hire” is what it’s termed.
Swiss Authorities’ Inactivity
For ten years, Qatari agents have spied on the world of football. SRF discovered that Zurich’s public prosecution department was aware of one alleged espionage network activity early on. They have been aware of the hack on Peter Hargitay’s PC since 2012 when the perpetrators began their operations. And it was clear that the Hargitay case was significant.
Unfortunately, nothing significant occurred in terms of public prosecution department investigations. Prosecutors failed to conduct evident investigative actions. The most prominent example is Rajat Khare, the former CEO of Appin Security, who was regarded as suspicious in the case. The prosecution first asked the CEO if he would be willing to answer questions about the matter. The prosecutor was informed by a lawyer that the entrepreneur would be willing to do this in writing. But, the prosecutor did not send any questions. Why is yet unknown.
After eight years, the public prosecution agency closed the case due to a lack of viable investigative channels. In a statement to SRF, the Zurich public prosecution department stated that they were unable to comment on their activities in the proceedings due to legal concerns. A spokeswoman stated that extensive efforts for the ongoing inquiry had been made to legal requirements. “There was no exertion of influence on any personnel of the public prosecution department,” the official added.
Rajat Khare now resides in Switzerland
Rajat Khare, the former CEO, now resides in Switzerland. He bought an amazing villa in the autumn of 2020, right after the probe was completed. In the sale, he paid CHF13.5 million to the daughter of a Ukrainian tycoon, according to the land registry office. He now promotes himself as a well-known start-up investor, and his photograph was taken for the French edition of the Swiss magazine Bilanz.
What would he have said if he had been called to testify in 2013? Would the tale have taken a different path? Would the Qatari spies have reduced their efforts out of fear of being discovered? Such inquiries will not be answered.
