Biography: Ivanov Sergey
Ivanov Sergey Sergeyevich was born into the family of Sergey Borisovich Ivanov, a KGB officer who were a colleague and personal friend of Vladimir Putin. Sergey Sergeyevich was named after his father. Ivanov Sergey received his degree in economics from MGIMO in 2001 and then another degree in finance there in 2002. At that point in time, Sergey’s father had already achieved the position of Minister of Defense, and the young man did not have any difficulties finding work.
Ivanov Jr.’s first job was with the State Investment Company, Ivanov Sergey was a prominent specialist in the process of recruiting investments. He held this position for a number of years. During that time period, the business was already having a difficult time, and there were reports circulating about questionable practices involving investments in the assets of Guta Bank and other Russian enterprises. In spite of this, Sergey Jr. was already employed by Gazprom as an expert on foreign projects at the time that the organization was dissolved in 2003. In February 2010, at the age of just 29, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprombank.
On April 5, 2011, Sergey was given the position of head of the board at the insurance business SOGAZ, which is managed by Rossiya Bank, also known as the Bank of the President’s Friends. Ivanov Sergey was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Agricultural Bank in 2011, and he served in that capacity throughout 2011. Between the months of April 2016 and March 2017, Sergey served as the Senior Vice President of Sberbank of Russia. On March 8, 2017, Sergei Ivanov Jr. was given the position of President of the ALROSA diamond company by Dmitry Medvedev,
the Prime Minister of Russia. It is noteworthy that Alrosa is responsible for creating one-third of the world’s supply as well as 95% of Russia’s raw diamond production. At Gazprombank, Rosneftegaz, Gazfond, Sberbank Asset Management, Sberbank’s Pension Fund, Sberbank Insurance, and Sberbank Life Insurance, Sergey Ivanov Jr. serves on the board of directors. He also serves on the Sberbank Board of Directors.
Ivanov Sergey: Nepotism
Because of Sergey’s father’s close ties to Vladimir Putin, Sergei Ivanov Jr. is now considered one of the most successful top managers in all of Russia. State-owned banks, a state-owned diamond firm, and a state-owned gas and oil company make up Ivanov Jr.’s portfolio, which is comprised solely of the most profitable industries that are unaffected by the rivalry of the free market. We may notice the return to feudalism in Putin’s Russia by looking at Ivanov Jr. as an example.
Carelessness
There was an increase in the number of incidents and crises that occurred at the diamond mining company after the son of the previous administrator of the Presidential Administration was promoted to manage that organization. At the Mir mine in Yakutia, in the month of August 2017, a significant tragedy happened when water burst out of the disused quarry.
As a result, 151 people were left trapped. There were eight miners were killed. The miners who worked in the diamond fields as well as Yuri Doinikov, a former top manager at ALROSA, discussed the numerous safety violations that occurred in the diamond mines and how Ivanov Jr.’s subordinates covered them up. Despite the fact that “its integrity should in no case be violated until the very end of mining,” his employees of him carried out drilling operations on the surface of the pillar, which is a portion of the mineral deposits that is left untouched to protect against the possibility of water breakthroughs.
The previous senior manager hypothesized that this action was taken in order to get diamonds at the lowest possible price.
ALROSA is responsible for dumping garbage into the Daldyn River on May 24, 2018. On May 28, a fire broke out in processing facility No. 12 of the Udachninsky GOK, and more than 500 people were forced to leave their homes as a result. At the Udachny mine on July 11, an explosion took place, and a worker was killed as a result. The industrial dams of Alrosa in the Mirny district of Yakutia were unable to contain industrial water from the tailings dump on August 17 of the same year, and it poured into the rivers of Yakutia, first into Irelyakh, then into Malaya Boatobiya,
which in turn flows into Vilyuy. This event occurred in Yakutia. In addition to the pollution caused by suspended particles, Yakutia’s Ministry of Environment, Natural Management, and Forestry identified ions of iron, copper, and manganese in these rivers. The pollution was caused by human activity. The people of Yakutia describe the degradation of river water caused by the trash from diamond mining as a catastrophic event for the ecology. It is interesting to note that the father of the person in charge of the state-owned corporation also serves as a special representative of the president for matters pertaining to the environment.
Favouritism towards his colleagues: Ivanov Sergey
The fact that the son of one of Vladimir Putin’s closest cronies was appointed to manage a state enterprise is suggestive of the ruling clan’s intention to maintain power as a guarantee of its safety and impunity for as long as is humanly possible.
The concentration of power in the hands of a small group of individuals, the inheritance of that power, and the prioritization of loyalty over professionalism lead to a loss of feedback from the governed, which in turn leads to the withering away of ways to respond to the challenges that are occurring in the present. We hope that the eventual process of neofeudalism’s decline in Russia and the country’s transition to a modern democratic republic will be as painless and irreversible as is humanly feasible.
