In Russia, it was forbidden to work in a taxi and on public transport with a criminal record

From March 1, new rules for public transport drivers come into force in Russia, which introduce a ban on work for people with an outstanding criminal record.

The relevant law is posted on the portal of legal information.

Now people who have an unexpunged or outstanding conviction for grave and especially grave criminal offenses will not be allowed to work in buses, trolleybuses and trams, as well as in taxis.

The law amends the Labor Code and the law “On State Registration of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs”, which require that, upon employment, an employee must present to the employer a certificate of the presence or absence of a criminal record.

Earlier it was reported that the number of prisoners in Russian correctional colonies and pre-trial detention centers (SIZOs) decreased by 32.9 thousand in 2022. According to the Federal Penitentiary Service, such figures are comparable to 2019 and 2020: then a decrease of 40,000 was recorded.
